Celebrate the Harvest Moon and Autumn Equinox with 108 Salutations.

I will lead you through 54 Surya Namaskars, Sun Salutations, symbolizing the summer heat and warmth of the season. To welcome autumn, we will ground with a practice of 54 Chandra Namaskar, Moon Salutations.

This practice will be done at your own pace and modifications/breaks will be taken.

Equinox Altar
If you have an altar or want to put together a new one to symbolize the change in seasons, bring your supplies.
Small altar supplies will also be provided:
• lavender, purple basil, and other herbs and flowers from my garden • ⁠twigs and stones
• ⁠acorns
• ⁠small embellishments

Light refreshments will also be provided 🖤

I am not an everyday-Ashtangi but I love this practice because I can shut off my busy ADHD brain. I don’t practice creative flows on my own because I’m not someone who can just move freely. I get stuck thinking about transitions and what to do next. I LOVE being taught and led through movement but when I’m practicing alone, Ashtanga is my practice. I don’t get bored doing the same sequence; rather I love it because I don’t have to think about what is next. I notice when some asanas feel good, not so good, when I feel stronger and when I’m tired. I’m also working on a hip injury so those tippy taps with my toes are my “back bends” right now.

utthita hasta padangusthasana sped up 10x (with 5 deep breaths per hold, the original video is 5 minutes long). I joke how much I dislike this sequence of poses but over time and patience, I’ve learned to look forward to this rather than anticipate how terrible it is. My ankle strength and mobility had gotten so much better over the years and I have to credit UHP. Practice makes progress. Perfection doesn’t exist.

Utthita Parsvakonasana B. A pose that has taken a few years of consistently practicing to not only get into, but to actually enjoy. I love how this pose challenges me: my balance, my breath, remembering to engage my back leg, etc. It’s basically like wringing your body out like a wash cloth.

I began this pose as a twisted lunge then eventually got my hand to the ground, followed by my back foot angled and anchored. Practice makes progress and over time, you might look forward to some of them. There is room for growth, like deepening the bed in my front leg or flattening my palm to the ground every time but every practice is different. 🖤

75 minutes sped up. What you don’t see is how I’m shaking in so many of these asanas - especially in utthita hasta padangusthasana. This practice feel’s different every time I step on my mat. Some days things flow together, while others I feel clunky. Then I think back to when I first started practicing Ashtanga and a headstand pike was next to impossible. Now any variation of shirshasana comes without much thought… but isn’t that part of practicing? Aiming for achieving and but your ego is annihilated, so when you get that pose it doesn’t seem to matter.
